About Colortec Powder Coating

Colortec powder coating has been purchased by New England Fiberglass Co. and Yacht Repair located at 58 Fore St., Portland, Maine.

I have had radar masts, port lights, cleats and out drive’s steering wheels powder coated by this company for 15 years. I was amazed and satisfied with the quality of the powder coating, so much so, I bought the company.

Some of you may know the advantages of powder coating vs. paint. Powders come in the same form as all boat-building materials, including epoxy, hybrids, polyesters and polyurethane. They are applied by a charged powder and baked in an oven. These products can be applied directly over anything metallic for a superior long, lasting finish. These are applied and half-baked then top coated with color depending on types of metals and primer. You can achieve between 6 to 20 mils and have a product that is designed to a 2000-hour salt spray life span. The powders are solvent free and encapsulate the part and remain pinhole free. All this performance can be applied to stainless steel, aluminum, steel galvanized, etc at a fraction of the cost of painting.

We offer sandblasting and polishing of aluminum, stainless steel and bronze. There is a 10’ x 10’ spray booth that allows us to match the color of a radar on the mast to the color of the boat. We epoxy powder prime the mast and spray Awlgrip and other paints to match.
